The 2009 Ping G15 Driver is an addition to the Driver market intended for use by a wide range of ability levels. Like with the G10 model from Ping, it sports a massive 460cc club-head.
The club also features some nice graphics and has a nice looking design, which is what many golfers would expect from a quality manufacturer like Ping.
The available lofts for the G15 Driver are 9, 10.5, 12, and 13.5 degrees.
The G15 Driver we tested was the 10.5 degree model, fitted with the Aldila Serrano Graphite shaft in stiff flex. This is one of the main shafts on offer with this Driver at most retailers.
This Driver does feel and look good at address. The G15 club-head sits behind the ball very well and it looks like a strong Driver, that can't help but give you a confident feeling.
Certainly when you first hit this Driver it's clear that the G15 is a very powerful Driver. Some people could even expect to see an increase of over 20 yards with the Ping G15 compared to some other new Driver models.
And this impressive distance is still there even when this club isn't hit that well. If you have a slightly inconsistent swing, you can still hit consistently long drives with the G15.
This is without having to try to smash the ball either, as we found this to be quite an easy to hit Driver that generally does a lot of the work for you.
Not only were we very impressed by the forgiveness of the club with regards to distance. But the Ping G15 Driver also gives a great amount of reliability in terms of accuracy also.
Miss-hits are hardly ever punished, the large head just seems to have such a massive sweet spot. It's difficult to find a more forgiving Driver than this club just now.
The ball flight is consistently strong and penetrating, seemingly no matter how well the ball's hit.
As a consequence of the great stability and forgiveness of the G15, working the golf ball from the tee isn't something that this Driver is good for.
But if that isn't something that really matters to you, then the Ping G15 Driver is a club that can offer exceptional performance.
This is one of the few Drivers that offers the great combination of distance and accuracy. If you want a reliable Driver that will keep you in play while keeping you up with and ahead of your playing partners, then you could do a lot worse than have a look at this club.
It is a Driver that we highly recommend.
While it perhaps isn't the cheapest Driver on the market just now, for what it can give you in performance it is decent value in our opinion. As of 2012 a Ping G15 Driver will cost you around £180 or $277.
